About this Award program: History and Facts

Those fully functional websites are not to be used as an alternative to this website, are not being maintained any longer, and are being preserved for historical reasons.
2000-2001, the origin...
The CPSnet Web Awards were established in June 2001, being the "Excellent Site Award" its precursor. This Excellent Site Award was launched in November 2000, remaining in operation until December 2002.

2002, the redefinition of the project...
During the year of 2002 several experiments took place at the CPSnet Web Awards, like the Site of The Month Award that was discontinued lately that year. The Aracnofilia Web Design Award was also introduced in January 2002. This new program was the first of our websites to be HTML 4 validated. Several new ratings and upgrades occurred and the site remained basically the same.
- 08.March.2002: Rated 3.0 by ARC
- 01.May.2002: Upgraded to level 4.5 by "Award Sites!"
UAG, ARC and GTA no longer exist, as well as "Award-Siegel" and "Awards Hot List".
2003, the year of all upgrades...
A completely new site was launched in February 2003, already showing some concernings with standards compliant code and accessibility issues. 2003 was an important year for this program that attained during that year some of the most important recognitions in the web awards community:

Bettering The Net By Striving for Excellence. David Bancroft, Award Sites!
- 15.May.2005: Rated 6 by EUTODA
Launched in April 2005, the current web site again shows our concerns with accessibilty, usability and standards compliance. The CPSnet Web Awards are now a mature and fully developed Award program and we are proud for having been able to take it where it stands now.
Until February 2003 and since July 2001 we have received about 950 applications. About 29% of them have earned one of our awards. You can still visit our previous winners: in this page you can visit here both current and old winners or you can go directly to each page:
- The High In The Sky Award winners: HITSA 2001 and HITSA 2002
- The Excellent Site! Award winners since November 2000
- The Aracnofilia Web Design Award winners: Aracnofilia 2002
The new CPSnet Web awards that you are now visiting, are in operation since February 2003. Major changes included dropping our multi-level awards and the closing of the "Excellent Site! Award". We have now two award programs with distinct purposes. Criteria set is now more elaborated. Scoring procedure is now even more rigorous. A greater emphasis in good web design practices, standards-compliant code and accessibility awareness is now evident in our criteria.
Earning one of our awards has become a little more difficult, but we know that outstanding websites are out there waiting for our visit.
